Dr. Stelios Platis worked as a consultant to financial institutions at KPMG (UK) and then as the Head of Strategic Planning at the Cyprus Popular Bank Group. In 2003 he founded and directed up until 2015, the internationally-awarded regulatory consulting Group, MAP S.Platis, providing risk management, internal audit and compliance support services to the EU financial services sector. In 2015, Dr. Platis has taken up the position of non-executive Chairman of the MAP S.Platis Group and MAP FinTech – the financial technology subsidiary of the Group, as well as of the executive education and professional studies institute, the European Institute of Management and Finance (EIMF), where since 2009 he has been the Chairman of the Association of Cyprus International Investment Firms (ACIIF).
He has taught Financial Accounting for the MSc Finance Programme at the London Business School, Financial Engineering and Risk Management for the MBA Programme at the Cyprus International Institute of Management, served as a Director of RiskLab (Cyprus) in association with the University of Cyprus and has been an associate of the Department of Applied Economics of the University of Cambridge.
Dr. Platis is certified to provide a number of investment services, and served as Internal Auditor / Compliance Officer / Risk Manager for a significant number of Investment Firms providing investment services in the European Union and globally and acted as a consultant on financial, risk management and economic matters to a number of organisations, committees and boards of directors.
Between 2003-2015, he was being regularly invited by Cypriot as well as international media to talk about current economic and political affairs, including the BBC, ITV, CNN, Bloomberg, ERT, MEGA, CyBC. He has been quoted by Dow Jones, Reuters, Financial Times, Washington Times, Moscow Times, Le Monde, amongst many others.
Dr. Platis holds a PhD and an MPhil in Economics and Finance from the University of Cambridge and BA (First Class) from the University of Essex in Accounting, Finance and Economics.
