History and Achievements
MAP S.Platis was founded by Dr. Stelios Platis as a specialised economic research and financial services training centre in 2003 under the name S.Platis Economic Research. By 2006, the company had already produced a significant number of seminal studies on home price indices, macroeconomic developments and forecasts, financial regulation, as well as risk analyses for infrastructure projects. It was in fact through research that it began focusing on the changing European Union (EU) regulatory infrastructure in financial services, MiFID.
Thus, by the implementation of MiFID in Cyprus in November 2007, MAP S.Platis – already a conglomerate of collaborating institutes – had put in place the foundation to become the first specialised team of financial regulation experts in the region. Based on deep and well-substantiated research and given the efforts of its founder and Chairman, Dr Stelios Platis, MAP S.Platis has succeeded in convincing CySEC in 2008 to include retail Forex as a duly regulated financial product under MiFID. This made Cyprus only the second EU Member State to do so in Europe, following the Financial Services Authority of the UK. As a result, to date, MAP S.Platis has consulted over 60% of all FX Brokers in Cyprus licensed under MiFID!
